Color Theory+ Face Charts




Color Theory

Color Theory: 
  • guideline for color mixing
  • results of what happens if you mix specific colors
  • colors are categorized in primary, secondary and tertiary colors 

  • as well as warm and cool colors
  • chromatic colors->actual colors
  • monochromatic colors-> different shades of one color
  • achromatic/neutral colors-> shades from white to grey to black, also neutral colors like your foundation tones
  • complementary colors->colors which are opposite each other in the color wheel, for example red=green, blue=orange and yellow=purple
  • analogous colors-> colors whit a similar shade

  • colors are also defined by saturation( dull vs intense), hue and lightness( light/white vs dark/black)
  • first one who unofficially developed the color theory was Issac Newton( in his book Opticks from 1704)

  • others who worked on the color theory were Johann Wolfgang von Goethe( Theory of Colors 1810, Michel Eugène Chevreul (1839, The Law of Simultaneous Color Contrast, Moses Harris( Natural System of Colors, 1776)

Color Context:
  • describes how the colors behave in relation to other colors or shapes.

As a homework we were ask to create a monochromatic, achromatic, analogous and complementary face chart


ACHROMATIC

MONOCHROMATIC
For the monochromatic look I used brown shades


When I look at the pictures now I think I should have done the eyebrows darker to actually match her hair color. And it is very unfortunate that you can't really the brown colors because of the lightning. Also the color of the lips is not really how I thought they would look. But I liked the look a lot on her:)
