Introduction Week

The introduction week was a lot of fun. We did loads of fun and interesting things.
Such as making a mask out of a paper bag and just some pens, glitter, colored paper, etc.
With the paper mask we were supposed to show what we want to be in 5 years time.
Not that easy at first if you ask me. I felt a bit uncomfortable doing it but it was fun in the end.
Even though I am not sure if the mask mirrors what I want to be in 5 years:)?

As you can see that's me with my lovely paper bag mask enjoying a pumpkin spice latte at Starbucks^^ Now you are probably wondering why would I do that? I would never think of something like that but our lovely Sharon forced us to take a selfie outside with those bags. And I thought I might as well take a cool one at Starbucks:) Ta-dah!

Oh I forgot on our first day we also had to take a selfie. The FirstDayOfSolent selfie.
So here it is #FDOS with my friend Vicki:)

Then on Wednesday the Illamasqua team came to visit us and held an interesting lecture. The team consisted of Spob O'Brien, Josephine O'Brien and Charlotte.  Spob talked about how she became a makeup artist, how she ended up with Illamasqua and just talked about Illamsqua generally.I do have to say that I heard about Illamasqua before but I never used their products until I got my makeup kit, so it was even more interesting for me.Then Charlotte did a very nice make up demo on Beth. I especially love the blue lips!

After the lecture we had an Illamasqua workshop, where we were supposed to create a makeup design for a catwalk show within small groups. Not was it only hard to come up with an idea and concept, with limited makeup to use, I also was under pressure because Spob would choose a few winning groups who could then work with Illamasqua for the Illamasqua Distinction in Make-Up Artistry Awards 2014.We also didn't have that much time to actually do the makeup look. My group was very small because it only consisted of me and Eirill, which was very nice. I am very glad that I could work with Eirill because our teamwork was very good. Also I was a bit scared first to actually work with someone else because I wasn't too sure about my skills but it worked out just fine. Our theme for the catwalk show was 'rich girl, broken and lost in the world'. We didn't had any brushes to use so we worked with our fingers. For the broken and lost girl image we created a pale face and highlighted the lower eye line with a nice glittery brown pigment from Illamasqua. It gave the face a kind of sick/ill looking feel. Which we wanted. On the middle of the eyelids we applied a bit of white eye shadow. We didn't concentrate to much on the eyelids because the focus was underneath the eye. As for the lips I used a reddish-brown eye shadow and applied it with the focus on the middle of the lips.We first thought about smudging the eye shadow on the lips which would intensify the broken look but decided against it in the end.As to my surprise our group got actually chosen and I worked last Saturday for the Illamasqua Distinction in Make-Up Artistry Awards 2014! When Spob told me I would work there I was actually quite shocked and could just not BELIEVE it. My eyes were even a bit teary:) Some may think my response was maybe a bit too much but I was just so utterly happy! When the freshers week started and I saw all the students looking super chic and having those amazing mood boards I didn't feel very confident but getting choosen  to work for Illamasqua made me feel more confident and enthusiastic. It's the little things that make me happy!

This was our final look for the Illamasqua workshop

That's me by the way^^ I was also the model for our makeup look.

On Thursday Charles Fox came for a lecture. I never heard of Charles Fox before. Obviously I did some research about them before I ordered the makeup kit and I quite like their products so far. Most interesting about the Charles Fox lecture was seeing all the products you can use for special effects. Fake blood. Yayy!!

Last thing we did in our introduction week was to find places which may be of use to us throughout the next year. Again we had to take selfies:) I went off with Vicki to find those places.

We went to the Mayflower Theatre which is a good place to go, to find out more about theatre/stage makeup .

Next up is the Southampton City Art Gallery
The art in this gallery could give us maybe some inspiration for makeup designs so that's why the art gallery could be of use for us.

Then we went to the West Quay Shopping Centre.

Inside is a John Lewis store which can provide us with makeup and maybe even  part-time jobs for some of us. John Lewis has got a Bobbi Brown counter as well as Mac, Lancôme, Chanel, Laura Mercier, Estée Lauder and many more. To find Smashbox and Benefit you can just go to your nearest Boots or Debenhams.

We also did a little research about what is the best selling product from Mac, Smashbox, Benefit, Bobbi Brown and Laura Mercier.

Here we go!

Summer project 2014 'If I could...I would'

Who do I want to be in 5 years time?
Where do I want be?
What kind of job do I want to do?
Do I want to be a different person ?

Those are all question I don't really have an answer to.
But I know that in 5 years time I want to be a happy person.
I want to do the kind of work I am interested in. I am not sure which way I want to go.
Fashion? Catwalk? Movie/Theatre/TV?  If I could I would do all of them. I easily get bored so I don't just want to stick with one direction. -great now I have one directions song stuck in my ear -.- -
So if possible I want to switch between all those directions.
But I do know that in 5 years time I would love to work for some time as a makeup artist in Seoul,South Korea.
I have been interested in Asia since I was little and a few years ago my interest in Korea grew and grew. I was so fascinated with this country and culture that I started to learn Korean. So even though I moved to Southampton now I am still going to London every Saturday to attend my Korean Class.
안녕하세요^^ And I learned how to play the Gayageum-a Korean instrument- it's so relaxing :)
So ,of course I also like Korean cosmetics and skin products. They are not just overly cute but also so good to your skin. I feel like the products help my skin much more than our products we have got here but let's end this here otherwise I keep going on how much I love Korean products for the next few hours! To sum it up I want to work in Korea but I also want to work in other places around the world. I want to see more of the world and to work as a makeup artist is a good opportunity to do it.

During our Freshers Week we got together in small groups and talked about our mood boards we created .So let me tell you something about the lovely ladies from my group:)

First of all from left to right it's me, Vicki Leong, Beth Webb , Anna Lenton and Sophey Sommers.

Starting with Vicki. Vicki's inspirations are Sarah Jagger and Pony(Korean makeup artist).
Just like Pony she would like to publish her own book and wants to teach makeup part-time in her own shop in Macau, where she is originally from. To get inspiration for her mood board she looked at magazines and had a stroll trough her favorite makeup blogs.

Beth wants to work with film studios preferably in Hollywood and would like to work on films like Harry Potter. She would like to earn a lot of money with her job and travel around. Her mood board inspirations were music videos, movies and makeup advertisement.

Anna wants to work in different areas such as for fashion,TV and films and even for a company to develop new products. She wants to have a secured income and a nice house. Anna's inspiration were from magazines, TV and films ,as well from other makeup artists and blogger.

Sophey wants to be a working mum and wants to have a nice big house for her family.
Ideally she would like to work on film sets, TV shows and also travel. She researched online for her mood board but also had a look at magazines and books. She gets her inspirations generally from other makeup artist and just the world around her.

And here is a link for a music video of the Korean boy band BigBang. I find their makeup very interesting and inspirational .Just love it :)
빅뱅 화이팅!

The makeup of this music video is also very interesting. The group is called f(x) and is a Korean girl group.
